About A Bridge Home
Founded in the fall of 2024, A Bridge Home is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring safe access and rebuilding resilience for communities impacted by natural disasters across Western North Carolina.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, thousands of families were left isolated by damaged roads, washed-out driveways, collapsed bridges, and destroyed infrastructure. A Bridge Home was created to help address these critical access challenges, ensuring that families can safely return home, access essential services, and begin the process of recovery.
Since our founding, we have rapidly grown from a grassroots response effort into a leading nonprofit focused on infrastructure recovery. Working alongside local governments, long-term recovery groups, engineers, contractors, and community partners, we coordinate and complete projects that restore access for disaster-affected households and strengthen community resilience for the future.
Our work extends beyond rebuilding bridges. We restore private roads, culverts, driveways, and other critical infrastructure that connect families to their homes and communities. By combining practical solutions with compassionate service, we help ensure that recovery efforts honor the dignity of every survivor we serve.
As we continue to expand our capacity, we are building strategic partnerships, strengthening operational systems, and developing innovative approaches to address infrastructure recovery on a regional scale. The need remains significant, but so does the commitment of the communities, organizations, and supporters working together to help our neighbors recover.
At A Bridge Home, we believe that restoring access restores hope. Every road repaired, every bridge rebuilt, and every family reconnected is a step toward stronger, more resilient communities throughout Western North Carolina.
Josh Hensley, Executive Director of a Bridge Home, describes the magnitude of destruction caused by Hurricane Helene and how A Bridge Home is working to rebuild vital infrastructure to help community members regain access to their homes.
